From Simple Beginnings

In 1977, a group of visionary families birthed a school in the Brisbane / Ipswich corridor, called Goodna Christian School. Their goal was to provide a safe Christian educational experience. Growing from strength to strength, the school was renamed Westside Christian College in 1995. Known as a school that punches above its weight, our students continue to achieve at a high level across many disciplines.

‘In Thy Light’ are three simple words that have been on the Westside Christian College crest since its inception. They underpin the College’s calling and purpose. In 2017 the College crest was refreshed and we saw the change from a shield to a lighthouse. This represented a significant strategic shift in outlook as we turned our focus from being the fortress on the hill to the lighthouse in the community, shining God’s light to all.

Today Westside is a vibrant community for nearly 1200 children and their families, from diverse backgrounds, cultures and circumstances. The heart of this school is made up of the people, past and present, who have helped establish the culture that gives the College its special atmosphere.

We would love you to be part of Westside!

40th Year CatchUp magazine

In 2017, Westside Christian College produced a commemorative magazine that honoured the Lord’s faithfulness, and the many people who have invested prayer, hard work, and tenacity to provide fertile ground for such a vibrant community today.

Please enjoy looking through this publication. It reflects our rich appreciation for so many different experiences of current students, past students, College families, and staff, and showcases heart-warming glimpses into the lives of the many people connected with Westside.

TESTIMONIAL

I so enjoy coming to school each day. There’s such a sense of belonging here. I love finding the gold in each student, and drawing that out.

Westside—a wonderful education, school friends, and families—the best! So yes, bring your children to this school. It is so worth it!
Kathy Accutt, Parent
I love the values we have here—achievement, belonging and care—and the college is able to achieve those through longevity of staff. And that establishes a great culture.
Shane de Graaf, Parent
One staff member had a huge impact on me and shaped the person I am today. Now a teacher here, I still marvel at the care and time teachers invest in students.
Steven Johnson, Teacher & former student
I really valued having positive relationships and honest conversations with my teachers. I was able to take their advice without offence, and that enabled me to work better.
