Westside’s outdoor education opportunities are designed to build a sense of personal achievement, self-esteem, confidence, and resilience skills. Students experience a variety of activities that are fun and interesting. We also foster positive relationship skills of cooperation, camaraderie, and empathy.
Primary Outdoor Education
Early Years Outdoor Education
In the early years, the children have opportunities to explore their school and local area and to participate in Positive Education Enhanced Curriculum programs.
Year 4 & Year 5
Our camps program for Primary students commences in Year 4 with an enjoyable overnight experience in South-East Queensland. This introduction to camping encourages students to work together, build resilience and enjoy God’s creation in new ways.
Year 5 camp builds to a two-night stay a little further away from home. Students enjoy learning about teamwork, developing leadership skills, and creating lasting memories through fun new experiences.
Year 6 Canberra Tour
Our culminating camp experience in Primary is the much-awaited Year 6 Canberra Tour. This is a four-night interstate trip to the Nation’s capital, complete with a snow experience! Visits to Old Parliament House, Parliament House, the Electoral Commission, Royal Australian Mint, Questacon and other exciting venues bring classroom learning to life.
Secondary Outdoor Education
The Secondary Outdoor Education program is a transformational experience that reflects our commitment to holistic formation, learning excellence, connected community, and responsible stewardship. Through adventure, challenge, and reflection, students grow in their understanding of themselves, their relationships, and their faith, to flourish as young people of influence who have a love for God and a heart for service.
Year 7, Year 8 & Year 9
The Year 7, 8, and 9 Camps help students explore foundational questions about identity, relationships, and teamwork, supporting their personal and spiritual formation while encouraging them to embrace challenge, discovery, and community. Students engage in outdoor activities such as stand-up paddleboarding, bodyboarding, surfing, raft building, canoeing, hiking, archery, mountain biking, team challenges, beach walks, and night activities—each designed to cultivate confidence, resilience, and teamwork—all while having fun!
Year 7 - Who Am I?
Students explore their God-given strengths, talents, and character. Through self-reflection and hands-on challenges, they develop confidence, perseverance, and a deeper understanding of their unique role in God’s story.
Year 8 - Who Are You?
This camp focuses on understanding and appreciating others, helping students develop empathy, communication skills, and stronger relationships. Collaborative tasks foster an appreciation of different perspectives and build the foundation for a thriving, connected community.
Year 9 - Who Are We?
With a focus on teamwork and unity, students learn to collaborate effectively, build trust, and problem-solve together. Group challenges encourage students to experience the power of community, preparing them to be responsible and compassionate leaders.
Year 11 Leadership Camp
The Year 11 Leadership Camp is a pivotal experience, designed to inspire, equip, and empower the next generation of Christian leaders. This camp aligns with Westside’s vision for leadership development, providing a dynamic and engaging environment where students learn to lead with integrity, humility, and purpose.
Our students experience enriching opportunities to grow through a combination of inspiring guest speakers, team-based leadership challenges. problem-solving and outdoor adventure activities, mentorship and guided reflection. Students develop self-awareness, resilience, and the ability to effectively lead and serve others. They learn to motivate teams, delegate responsibility, and work collaboratively toward a common goal.
This camp is about more than leadership skills—it is about character formation. Students step into their God-given potential, preparing to make a positive impact in their school, community, and future careers.
