Learning For Life
While Achievement, Belonging and Care are woven together in the fabric of our learning community, we recognise that each student has unique strengths and talents.
Learning Support
Westside assists students with demonstrated learning and emotional needs. This support is offered in a variety of ways depending on the student’s level of need. A student may be referred for learning support at enrolment or parents can also contact our SWAN (Students With Additional Needs) Primary or Secondary Coordinators for further information.
Special Education Element
Westside operates its SEE for students who are verified with significant learning needs. Places in SEE are limited. Entry to the SEE is at the discretion of the College.
Learning Extension
Westside provides opportunities for students to be enriched and extended through a variety of activities and competitions. Teachers also extend students through regular classroom experiences.
Secondary Campus Initiatives
On our Secondary campus, we recognise that every learner is unique and that exceptional learning occurs when students are both supported and stretched. Through our SWAN (Students With Additional Needs) program and the Special Education Element (SEE), we provide tailored support for students who require extra assistance, ensuring they can access and thrive in the curriculum.
We also offer a wide range of extension opportunities for high-achieving and highly engaged students. These include academic competitions, Science Ambassador programs, debating and mooting, and leadership involvement through the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council. Students with particular strengths in music are encouraged to pursue excellence through dedicated ensembles and performance pathways. Those with sporting abilities are cheered on to pursue opportunities that support their interests and abilities.
Senior Students have an opportunity to study university subjects concurrently with their Year 12 studies through The University of Queensland (UQ), Queensland University of Technology (QUT) or the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). Senior students can also engage in after-school extension subjects and pursue other individualised pathways that undergird their future aspirations, such as trades or service-oriented vocations. Our goal is to help every student discover their God-given potential and be equipped to make a difference in their world.
